160mm Square Hopper Head
Product Description
This 160mm Square Hopper Head is designed to collect surface water from external areas (driveways, patios, yard surfaces) and channel it efficiently into a 110 mm underground drain. The hopper’s 160 mm wide top provides a generous catchment area, while the integrated 110 mm solvent-socket outlet allows direct connection into standard drainage pipework.
Constructed from durable PVC (or compatible plastic used in drainage systems), the hopper includes a raised inlet to ensure water is captured even in shallow surface gradients. The solvent socket end allows a strong, permanent bond with adjoining pipework, ensuring a watertight joint. The body is built to resist soil pressure, freeze-thaw cycles, and debris loading—typical stresses in outdoor drainage installations.
This component is particularly useful in drainage schemes where the surface run must feed into a narrower sub-surface pipe without using multiple adaptors or transitions. By combining a hopper and socket outlet in one unit, it simplifies installation, reduces joint count, and helps maintain hydraulic performance.
Key Features
-
Top Inlet / Hopper Opening: ~160 mm for ample water catchment
-
Outlet: 110 mm solvent-socket — for secure, bonded pipe connection
-
Raised inlet / riser portion: ensures effective water capture in variable surface levels
-
Material: durable plastic / PVC compatible with drainage systems
-
Smooth internal profile: helps reduce turbulence and minimise clogging
-
Permanent joint via solvent socket: for a rigid, leak-resistant connection
Benefits
-
Single-piece solution: No need for separate adaptor or reducer between larger inlet and 110 mm pipe
-
Neat and robust installation: Solvent socket provides a strong, sealed joint without extra gaskets or clamps
-
Better flow management: Raised inlet ensures surface water is captured effectively even in shallow gradients
-
Reduced maintenance: Smooth internal paths reduce debris accumulation, making cleaning easier
-
Lower installation complexity: Fewer components and joints reduce labour, risk of leaks, and alignment errors
