Description
Kandla Grey Natural Sandstone 600 × 290mm Paving Slabs
Create a timeless outdoor space with Kandla Grey Natural Sandstone Paving Slabs. Combining soft and medium-grey tones with subtle natural veining, these slabs provide a versatile finish that complements both traditional and contemporary garden designs.
Each slab features a naturally riven surface, giving the paving attractive depth and texture while providing additional grip underfoot. The hand-cut edges retain the authentic character of natural stone, while the uniform 600 × 290mm format is ideal for creating detailed laying patterns, borders and pathways.
Manufactured from durable natural sandstone with a nominal thickness of 20mm, Kandla Grey paving is suitable for patios, paths, courtyards, garden seating areas and other outdoor pedestrian spaces. Because this is genuine natural stone, every slab has its own individual colouring and surface pattern, producing a finished installation full of character.

Important Natural-Stone Information
Kandla Grey is a natural stone product, so variations in shade, veining, texture, dimensions and thickness are completely normal. These differences give the paving its individual character and should not be considered manufacturing defects.
For larger projects, we recommend opening several packs and mixing the slabs during installation. This helps distribute the natural shades and variations evenly across the completed area.
We also recommend ordering approximately 10% more paving than the measured area to allow for cutting, selection, handling and possible breakages.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size are the slabs?
Each Kandla Grey paving slab measures approximately 600mm × 290mm. Small dimensional variations are normal due to the slabs having hand-cut edges.
How thick are Kandla Grey sandstone slabs?
The slabs have a nominal thickness of 20mm. As sandstone is naturally split, the thickness may vary by approximately ±5mm. An experienced installer can accommodate these variations within the mortar bed.
How many slabs are included in a full pack?
A complete patio pack contains 90 slabs measuring 600 × 290mm.
How much area does a full pack cover?
A full pack covers approximately 17m² when installed with joints of around 10mm.
Are all the slabs the same shade of grey?
No. Kandla Grey is a natural sandstone containing soft and medium-grey shades, subtle veining and occasional tonal variations. Every slab will be slightly different, which creates a more natural finished appearance.
What does a riven surface mean?
A riven surface is created by splitting sandstone along its natural layers. This produces a textured and slightly uneven finish that provides character and additional grip underfoot.
Is Kandla Grey sandstone slippery?
The naturally riven surface and R11 slip rating provide useful grip for outdoor applications. However, all paving can become slippery if algae, moss or debris are allowed to accumulate, so routine cleaning remains important.
What can these paving slabs be used for?
They are suitable for patios, pathways, courtyards, garden seating areas and other outdoor pedestrian applications. Their 600 × 290mm format also makes them useful for detailed patterns and borders.
Can these slabs be used on a driveway?
These slabs are primarily intended for pedestrian areas. They should not be used for a driveway unless the slabs, sub-base and installation system have been professionally specified to withstand vehicle traffic.
How should Kandla Grey sandstone be installed?
The slabs should be laid on a full-contact mortar bed that supports the entire underside of each slab. Spot bedding is not recommended. A suitable slurry primer should also be applied to the underside to improve adhesion between the paving and mortar.
What joint width should I use?
A joint width of approximately 10mm is recommended. Some adjustment may be required to accommodate the naturally hand-cut edges and minor dimensional variations.
Does Kandla Grey sandstone need sealing?
Sealing is not always essential, but applying a suitable breathable natural-stone sealer is recommended. It can help protect the sandstone against staining, moisture and weathering while making ongoing maintenance easier.
How do I clean Kandla Grey sandstone?
Sweep the paving regularly and clean it using water and a suitable natural-stone cleaner when required. Avoid acidic products and harsh chemicals, as these can stain or damage sandstone.
How much extra paving should I order?
We recommend ordering approximately 10% more than the measured area. This provides an allowance for cuts, natural slab selection, handling and potential transit breakages.
